Remember that at it's core the magus is a martial class. It can be built as a controller caster. As a staff magus you only get light armor so you need some DEX but a staff can't be finessed so you need STR for hit/dmg. Also you don't care as much about crits as other magi so shocking grasp losses some appeal.Magus gets a lot in the way of better armor, some combat feats, and your bloodline capstone. Alongside better enchantments like vorpal. DD trades all of that for +4 STR, +2 INT, a bite attack doing about 2-10 damage I think, and some Nat AC.
