the Mossberg 500 and the 590 aren't really in the same category to be fair. The Supernova vs the 590 is a much more suitable comparison in my eyes. The fore end rattles, but about the same as any other pump gun , that's just how they are. Of mine, the BPS probably rattles the least, Mossberg 500 the most, 870 & Benelli in the middle.

The pump is like $219 and the Supreme/Auto is $400. They have 3" chambers and the safety in the rear of the trigger guard. I own 3.5" guns but never shoot any 3.5" ammo. Its just not necessary for ducks or geese. I shoot mostly 2 3/4 as it gets the job done and I prefer it over 3". I have owned two Novas in the past.

So if you wanted to hammer long range birds, the SV has the edge. It also has a smoother action. However, the 590 is built like a tank and has a much better safety for left hand use. I think Western Auto's Revelation were also made by Mossy. Anyway, I used the Mossberg 500 for many years and it never jammed, but that safety broke a few times, a common problem for them.
