Pyromancy doesn't scale the same way way hexes do. It scales equally with INT and FTH (softcap at 60 points between both stats). So pure sorcerers and clerics can also use them effectively because they don't have stat requirements, you can use them at base int/fth and still deal decent damage (~60% compared to softcapped damage)

It does really decent dmg and is quite useful in PvP, since most people ♥♥♥♥ up their dodge because they expect the longer casting time of Great Combustion. Aside from that there is Firesnake. It pretty common but for a good reason.Well if you're making pyromancy a focus, sure. But the thing is that it's viable at a much lower stat investment. It's perfectly reasonable to be a melee character that gets the attunement from some form of Southern Ritual Bands. The pyromancy is just a support just like the bow, but still you can use it if you feel like you need it. The dragonrider bow makes a huge amount of damage and can easily one shot kill most of the enemies, or at least hit them really hard if you hit them in the head.
