It advances the timing a bit at 5000 rpm, then retards it at 5500 rpm, causing the torque curve to effectively hit the wall. I always blow air from a compressior thru the motor backwards of the normal water flow before replacing the LU back on the motor. This can be done at the phole on the motor.

A stuck float needle won't let it idle. A leaking float needle won't let it idle. A leaking float needle won't be noticed at high speed. They basically stand open at WOT anyway. Jun 19, 2019 · Help plz. 87 Mercury 150 xr2 Black Max. I just recently purchased a 87 hydra sport with 87 150 xr2 Black Max. Boat is real sluggish out the whole and will only run 5400 wot. It has a 23p prop. All cylinders have good compression. New stator was put on in March as I was told. Boat only runs 48mph and 5400 rpms.

My issue is when I am running, motor sounds/feels like its bogged down. Will only get to around 5200 rpm, according to the owners manual I found online, 6000 to 7000 is recommended wide open throttle.
