I used up a 1000 Winchester LP magnum primers in my 45-70, no issues and in reality you can use them for most 45-70 loads as they are normally used in rounds that make pressures to 40,000 PSI. IMR3031 is THE smokeless powder for the 45-70. I use it in my Pedersoli Springfield Trapdoor. I don't believe I use buffers except w/ black powder. If you load it to little you cause a high pressure problem, if you load it to much you cause a high pressure problem. Hodgdon does not even list a load with it.
